How it keeps quality high
JPEG quality is adjusted step by step to find the highest setting that still fits your limit. Only if the image is too large even at low quality are its pixel dimensions reduced. iPhone HEIC photos are converted automatically.

Why is my image smaller in pixels after compressing?
For very small targets (like 20KB for a large photo), lowering quality alone isn’t enough, so the tool also reduces the dimensions until the file fits.
Can I compress PNG files?
Yes. PNG, WEBP and HEIC images are accepted and saved as JPG, which is much smaller for photos.
